BEAUTY MUST-HAVES

SUMMER TO FALL MAKEUP ROUTINE

I get a lot of questions about my makeup routine and the products I love, so I thought I’d empty my makeup bag into one post to show you what look I’ve been rocking at the end of summer that I’ll be taking well into fall. From the summer, I’m keeping a peachy blush and a bronzer. To add in something new for the fall season, I’m mixing in a plum lipstick and darker shadow and eyeliner. Read on for my product list and new additions to my routine, as well as order of application and advice on how to use!

After I go through my extensive skincare routine, ending with my Glam Glow Glowstarter, I get started on all the fun stuff! Here’s the list:

Primer: Hourglass Mineral Primer to give my skin a silky layer to hold the foundation. I mentioned my discovery of this in my recent Life Lately post, and boy do I LOVE IT. I’ve never used such a fantastic primer in my life!

Foundation: Makeup Forever HD Foundation Stick under eyes, around the nose and on my chin to cover the acne scars. I’ve been through the foundation gauntlet these last six months, and this one is my favorite.

Foundation Brush: I then blend it with this Tarte foundation brush. Blending foundation with extremely dense brushes is all the rage to create an airbrushed look right now!

Concealers: I use two. One that is thick and tacky for my acne scars on my chin by Stowaway Cosmetics, and another for my under eye area that gets rid of the dark circles – the Instant Age Rewind Eraser by Maybelline. Both should be known as the BEST CONCEALERS EVER. I’ve written before about the Stowaway one here and the Maybelline one here.

Bronzer: Hoola by Benefit. Known across makeup-loving circles as pretty much the best simple bronzer ever. It will keep the summer flush you have from the sun without adding tons of work-inappropriate shimmer.

Blush: Bare Minerals Champagne Peach – I love their blushes because they blend very well. This is a good runner up to NARS Orgasm, and it lasts forever. I also sometimes use it in the crease of my eyes to add brightness.

Highlighter: Guerlain Meteorites Powder. I swipe a touch of this on my cheeks, brow bone, forehead, and nose as the final step in the bronzer-blush-highlighter trinity of contouring. This is one of those cult products that people love, but I’ve not been super-impressed. I will likely not re-up when I am done with it, but it does accomplish what I’m going for.

Eye shadow: Bobbi Brown Bronze Shimmer Brick and NEW Clarins 4-Colour Eyeshadow Palette in Nude. I wore the shimmer brick as eyeshadow all summer and will continue to do so on light makeup days in the fall. This is also one of those cult products that people buy over and over for the rest of their lives. When I want to go heavier on the eyes for the new season, I’m using this beautiful Clarins palette (c/o). It’s a wet-dry compact, so you can wear the shadows with a higher pigmentation if you wet them, but I am LOVING them dry so far. Perfect colors for fall and for a cooler-weather wedding.

Eyeliner: Urban Decay Naked 24/7 Double-Ended Eye Pencil in Venus/Crave and NEW Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Ultra Skinny Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer 42. I use the white end of the Naked pencil to highlight my brow and cheek bones, and the brown end on my eyes for a lightly lined effect. But I’m adding in this jet-black Marc Jacobs liner for fall because it glides on like a dream and is super intense for a night out. I LOVE it.

Mascara: Lancome Cils Booster Lash Primer and Definicils Mascara are my go-tos forever. I will swear by them both for the rest of my life, no matter the season.

Lips: Trish McEvoy Sheer Lipcolor in Florence and NEW NARS Satin Lipstick in Afghan Red. This Trish McEvoy lipstick is the perfect year-round, everyday, work-appropriate lipstick. I HIGHLY recommend it! But for fall, I need to add in a deeper reddish-plum, so I went for this lovely option from NARS. I went through the Sephora Color I.D. process to find it – have you ever tried that? Super fun!

Setting Spray: Finally I set everything with the Makeup Forever Mist & Fix spray. You can also use it to fix makeup mistakes!

Brushes: I could go on for days about brushes, so I’ll quickly go through these from left to right. Foundation application brush, Tarte foundation blending brush, eyeshadow crease brush, Real Techniques bronzer application brush (c/o), eyeshadow lid brush, MAC blush brush, Sephora powder brush, all-over blending brush. I’ve linked to these or similar ones in the scrolling products below. Let me know in the comments if you’d like me to talk about makeup brushes and what they do in a separate post!!
